Edited by Andrew Lang. Dark blue cloth, blind decoration to front cover, gilt vignette & title to spine. Top edge gilt. B/w illustrations. Boards rubbed at edges and a little grubby, scuffed. Spine is browned and worn top & tail. Contemporary inscription in ink to front endpaper. Text block browned. Hinges pulled but binding is tight. A few light margin marks.

Reset edition. a Dutch-American villager in colonial America named Rip Van Winkle who meets mysterious Dutchmen, imbibes their strong liquor and falls deeply asleep in the Catskill Mountains. He awakes 20 years later to a very changed world, having missed the American Revolution. Green cloth, gilt title to spine and front cover. 50 colour plates (printed both sides of the page) plus colour frontis. Spine and corners bumped and slightly rubbed. Tiny white mark to top edge of front cover. Light foxing to textblock. Dustwrapper is edge worn with slight loss and a little faded to spine.
