Almost very good condition.
In this 1890 book, a number of the exemplar gardens are taken from Milner's father's designs, with two studies of his own work (one in England and one in Hungary) at the end, and he surveys the whole 'art and practice', from aesthetic theory to building and planting, with plans and illustrations. Large format. Dark green cloth boards, gilt titles. Top edge gilt else text block untrimmed. With plans and illustrations (22 plates). One or two pulled hinges but binding is tight. 116 pages. Boards are edge-rubbed, worn and bent at corners, scuffed and marked. Top & tail of spine have slight loss of cloth, small split to top rear edge cloth of spine. Endpapers heavily browned. Name in pencil to front endpaper. All plates present. Text block browned. A few scattered foxspots and grubby marks to margins. Binding tight.

"All that's needed is a bit of woodworking skill, or lacking that, a strong desire to build your own spinning wheel for under $25." Very good condition in a almost very good dustwrapper.
Very large oblong format. Unlike the architecture and furniture of the period, most of the ships and boats built between 1650 abnd 1850 have disappeared. Only two of the barges illustrated in this book have been preserved, both of them Royal barges and both small enough to be kept out of the water and under cover when not in use. The others - all examples of the great civic barges - are known to us only through models, drawings and descriptions. Blue cloth boards, gilt titles. Colour plates. 45 pages. Rubbing to vertical edge of front board. Boards clean. Endpapers browned. Contents clean.
