It gathers together articles, essays and recollections published during the last decade of Dickens' life, before his untimely death in 1870, and represents the culmination of a lifetime's work in popular journalism. Cream pictorial dustwrapper is faded to spine, base of spine has a tear, no loss.

Slater reprints some of Dickens' best journalism from the period, including well-known pieces like "Pet Prisoners," "Old Lamps for New Ones," and "On Duty with Inspector Field," along with unfamiliar gems such as "Snoring for the Million" and "Demoralisation and Total Abstinence." Annotated. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. xxxviii and 408 pages including index. ISBN: 0460877275. Slight bump to top of spine. Boards clean. A few minor foxspots to text block and top edge of text block a bit grubby. Else contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly faded to spine.

Yellow cloth, green title to spine and vignette to front cover. Top edge is cut and dyed blue, other edges untrimmed. 7 beautiful colour plates. Covers are foxed, spine is slightly browned. Some light foxing and some browning to endpapers. Contents clean. Burgundy slipcase is edge worn, title on spine has faded
