This study, published posthumously, describes the introduction of gunpowder, the earliest guns and their development, and the ways in which the castle designers sought to meet the new threat to their foritifcations which resulted from the introduction of battering ordnance. A few minor marks and scuffs to boards. Foxing to endpapers and text block. Else contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper has some foxing, is edge-rubbed, faded to spine and grubby.
