Nearly fine condition in a nearly fine dustwrapper.
A Schiffer Military History Book. After a promising beginning as the Royal Naval Air Service in World War I, the Fleet Air Arm, also known as 'The Air Branch of the Royal Navy', became a military 'football' passed around betwen its parent service and the Royal Air Force under whose operational control it fell from 1918-1937. At the outbreak of WWII, the Force was poorly equipped and dangerously short of qualified personnel and suffered accordingly. By 1943, with the provision of superior carrier aircraft designs and a similar whole sale expansion in Fleet and Escort carriers, as well as the personnel with which to operate the warships and aircraft, the Fllet Air Arm was an all-round, efficient Force. Large format. Pictorial glazed boards. Marbled endpapers. B/w photos. 311 pages including index. ISBN: 0764321315. Minor splash of binding glue to lower edge of text block, previous bookseller's price label to rear panel of dustwrapper (small and unobtrusive) else a lovely copy!
