According to the author, the purpose of the novel was "to see the hell through the eyes of a dog who assumes it is a paradise". Originally published in Russian under the title Ernyi Ruslan in 1975. This edition translated to English by Michael Glenny. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. 220 pages. ISBN: 022401689X. Boards clean. Text block very slightly dusty, small foxspot to top of vertical edge. Contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is price-cut by publisher and has publisher's price sticker to front flap, is lightly edge creased across top edge of front panel with a small closed tear (no loss), scuffed to rear panel.
