In practice, however, it was found that the study of wild life upset the smooth running of school routine. And when Jennings (Chief Frog Spotter) and Darbishire (Hon. Sec.) decided to look further afield for their specimens, things began to happen. For example, Mr. Wilkins' car developed engine trouble in mysterious circumstances; Dr. Hipkin, the "scientific frogman" narrowly escaped a watery grave. And then there was the combination padlock which required of its owner a knowledge of English history before it would function. But worst of all, perhaps, was the alleged escape of swarm of newly-graduated frogs which might be hopping about the building just as the guests arrived for the Speech Day ceremony...
