Set of 4 books, each containing 10 colour plates. Books cover following periods: William I-Henry III; Edward I-Richard III; Henry VII-Elizabeth and James I-Edward VII. Red cloth spines. Pictorial onlays to front covers. SIGNED by author with dedication to previous owner to first volume of set. Bottom 1" of spine to first volume has splitting with some fraying of cloth. Some other nicks and chips to spine, with varying degrees of fading. Couple of covers are a bit bowed with some marks. Corners are worn, with some chipping. Foxing and browning to endpapers and outer page edges. Some margin marks to pages. Closed tear (repaired with magic tape) to one front endpaper.

Red cloth, dark titles. 12 monochrome plates plus some b/w text illustrations. Spine and corners bumped and slightly rubbed. Inscription in ink to front pastedown. Cream dustwrapper is slightly grubby and foxed and has a few small tears at edges.

Browning to spine and some cover edges. Cloth at top edge of rear cover slightly rippled. Covers slightly grubby. Light crease to front endpaper. Foxing to contents otherwise clean. All plates present. Dustwrapper has some edge wear with a couple of small tears, chips and creases. Loss from base of spine disguised by photocopy underneath. Clear tape repairs to tears on verso. 5 written on front panel near fold. Corners cut from flaps.

Spine bumped, rubbed and browned. Corners bumped. Browning to board edges. Large mark (possibly damp) to rear board. Boards are generally grubby. Mark to top of text block edge. Light browning to end papers. Some foxing mainly to page edges. Plates in fine condition.

Spine and corners bumped. Uneven fading to spine and boards. Dated inscription in ink to front endpaper, the imprint of which can be seen on the half-title page. Some page browning and foxing with many pages being clean. Plates are in fine condition.

Some hinges are cracked/pulled showing webbing beneath. Some light foxing. Tissue-guards of plates are slightly browned and some are slightly torn.

There is foxing to the contents (which affects the b/w plates but not the colour ones) but otherwise this is a lovely, bright copy. This copy would make a wonderful gift.
