Chipping to edges of pictorial onlay which also has brown mark at the bottom. Name and address in pencil to top of front endpaper. Endpapers browned. Foxing to prelims and page edges. A few pencil annotation marks otherwise contents generally clean.

Tan boards, red decoration to front. Colour frontis and numerous b/w text illustrations by the author. 94 pages. Bumping and wear to spine and corners. Front board is a little bowed. A few grubby finger margin marks. 6 B/w illustrations have been neatly coloured (some only partially). Foxing to outer page edges. Wrapper is grubby with some foxing; has closed edge-tears that have been neatly repaired to verso with magic tape. A few chips of loss at corners of wrapper; small triangle of loss to wrapper at base of spine.

Publishers full brown calf binding with gilt decorations/titles. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Colour and b/w mounted plates plus b/w illustrations. Very slight rubbing to cover edges. There is foxing to the contents (which affects the b/w plates but not the colour ones) but otherwise this is a lovely, bright copy. This copy would make a wonderful gift.

Beige cloth, pale blue titles with red vignettes to front cover and spine. 128 pages. 10.5 x 8". Spine and corners bumped and worn. Bottom 3" of spine is covered in green tape. Rest of spine is a little browned. Couple of marks to covers. Small booksellers sticker to bottom of front pastedown. Endpapers browned and foxed. Old price is partially erased from front endpaper. A little foxing to contents and to page edges otherwise contents are clean. All plates are present and in good condition but one is detached. Pictorial dustwrapper is very edge worn and torn with loss to top of front panel and to top and bottom of spine. Green tape has been stuck to verso of spine to cover the loss. Wrapper is browned and grubby.

Peer Gynt is first and foremost a poetic fantasy, although based on a real person who lived Norway c1800. About his exploits, not much more is known than is found in Asbjornsen's book Norwegian Fairy Tales, in which Peer Gynt's chief exploits lie in the direction of fighting and conqueroring trolls. Admirably depicted by the "Goblin Master" in 12 colour plates plus b/w text illustrations. Brown cloth, gilt titles and vignette to front cover. Cream and brown pictorial endpapers. 255 pages. Spine bumped. Endpapers lightly browned. Name and date in ink to front fly-leaf. Dustwrapper is edge worn/torn/chipped with small section of loss to centre of spine, some foxing to wrapper.
