Illustrated pastedowns. Spine and corners bumped. Spine very slightly darkened. Light stain to rear cover. Endpapers and textblock slightly browned. Some light foxing to contents. Scarce original wrapper is slightly edge worn with slight loss to spine and corners and darkened to spine.

There is some very slight fraying of cloth to spine edges. There are a couple of tiny nicks to top edge of front cover. Discolouration to the rear cover (see picture). Foxing to page margins and textblock. Some hinges slightly cracked but binding still nice and tight. Plates all present and in fine condition.

There are a couple of old, light sellotape marks to corners of the front free-endpaper and there is evidence of erased heavy pencil. The spine of the dustwrapper is lightly faded (as is usual with the NN books).

Different colour cloths with b/w engravings by different illustrators. Top edge of text blocks is grubby/lightly browned at the opening ends (approx 2" maximum starting from outside edge). Spine of Middlemarch is faded, only noticeable when removed from the slipcase. Otherwise, a very nice set contained in two slipcases which are lightly scuffed.
