Ralph Kite was an ordinary Edwardian schoolboy, who was sent home at an early age from Tasmania to be educated in England. During his tragically short life he rose to command a company of the 52nd Light Infantry on the Somme. Having won the Military Cross he was mortally wounded and spent an agonising month dying of his wounds.
