Almost very good condition.
40 tipped in colour plates, tissue guarded. Green cloth, gilt titles and decoration to front cover and spine. 143 pages. 11 x 8.5". Spine and corners bumped and rubbed. A few small dents to cover edges. Spine is foxed and has a small worn patch to rear edge with slight loss of cloth. Front joint is cracked. There is some light foxing to the contents. Some of the tissue-guards are creased but all plates are present and in fine condition.

John Heminge and Henry Condell prepared and oversaw the First Folio edition of Shakespeare (1623) and without their work which was undertaken in part as a gesture of respect and love towards their former colleague some plays would have been lost and others would only exist in garbled versions. Heminge and Condell were closely associated with Shakespeare and were among the principal actors in his plays. Brown imitation leather cloth boards with gilt tooling to sides and gilt title to spine.
