The San Diego Zoo began with a roar, so the legend goes. In 1916, a local doctor named Harry Wegeforth heard a caged menagerie lion's melancholy roar and decided to found a zoo... Created for its 2016 centennial celebration, The San Diego Zoo: The First Century preserves the Zoo's history in two volumes: volume One The Founding Era 1916-1953 and Volume Two The Modern Era 1954-2016. Green cloth boards, gilt title to front boards. B/w and colour photos. ISBN: 9780692397923. A lovely set contained in publisher's slipcase which has a couple of minor scuff marks. Also contained in original cardboard box which has some marks, some fading and is heavily bumped on one corner, couple of closing flaps to one end are missing.
