Slightly better than very good condition in a nearly fine dustwrapper. Whitehaven was a tiny isolated fishing village before the Dissolution, belonging to the Priory of St Bees. This book traces its surprising rise to become one of the seven most important ports in the kingdom, following its acquisition by the Lowther family, in 1600... Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine. Colour frontis, b/w photos and illustrations.
