A downright book about downright naughty children. An anthology compiled by Christianna Brand. Blue boards, gilt title to spine. 40 b/w illustrations. 318 pages. Bumping to spine and corners. Spine is faded and foxed. Inscription in ink to top of front pastedown. Foxing mainly to page edges. Price -cut dustwrapper is edge worn with some tears and loss to top and bottom of spine. Top edges and spine look like they have been damaged by bookworm. Spine and rear panel very rubbed. Foxing mainly to verso.

A little bumping and wear to spine and corners. Front endpaper is MISSING. Tape removed from bottom 2" of front joint. Some foxing, mainly to endpapers. A couple of marks to contents. Dustwrapper is edge worn, torn and chipped, 3" tear to bottom of front panel. Grubby with some coloured pen marks and light stain to rear panel. Foxed.

E. Nesbit was born in 1858 and she died in 1924. She wrote these reminiscences of her childhood and schooldays long after she was grown up and they were first published in 1895-6 as a series of magazine articles. Long foreword by Streatfeild. Brown cloth with gilt title to spine. Characteristic line drawings by Edward Ardizzone visually interpret the author's vivid childhood memories. 127 pages. Spine and corners bumped. There are a couple of small splash marks to lower edges of covers. Small booksellers sticker to front pastedown. Foxing to endpapers, prelims and page edges else contents clean. Price-cut wrapper is edge worn and foxed with slight chipping to top and tail of spine and a small nick to front edge of spine.

Browned tape marks to top and bottom of both boards. Brown marks to half title page and last blank page. Contents otherwise generally clean. A few marks to text block edge. Red top of text block has faded. Dustwrapper has been price cut by publisher with new small price label stuck to front flap. Small label to bottom of spine. Wrapper is a little edge worn and browned on verso.

Copy no. 853. Ali Baba is SIGNED by Ardizzone and Ugly Duckling is SIGNED by Jackson, Hersholt and Schwartz. Each volume is slightly bumped and rubbed to spine, Ali Baba has a small nick to centre of spine. There are some light fingermarks to page margins but generally the contents are clean. The slipcase is worn and the spine of the slipcase is browned.
