Tape/glue residue with some paper residue to edges of pastedowns. Inscription in ink to verso of front endpaper. Foxing to endpapers, outer page edges and some page margins. Some grubby margin marks. One plate is partially detached.

Olive green cloth, gilt titles and vignettes to front cover and spine. Large format. Dark green pictorial endpapers. Top edge gilt, others uncut. 24 mounted colour plates with captioned tissue guards, 12 full-page tinted illustrations plus numerous b/w drawings. Spine and corners slightly bumped with minimal rubbing. Small indentations to cover edges. All plates present, a couple have light corner creases all others are fine. Foxing to contents and some light fingering to page margins.

Contains extra colour plate not in trade edition. SIGNED by the artist, this is copy no. 76. Spine and corners bumped and worn. Some foxing/browning/spotting to covers. Endpapers lightly browned. Foxing to contents and a couple of light marks to page margins. Two of the plates have corner creases.

Peer Gynt is first and foremost a poetic fantasy, although based on a real person who lived Norway c1800. About his exploits, not much more is known than is found in Asbjornsen's book Norwegian Fairy Tales, in which Peer Gynt's chief exploits lie in the direction of fighting and conqueroring trolls. Admirably depicted by the "Goblin Master" in 12 colour plates plus b/w text illustrations. Brown cloth, gilt titles and vignette to front cover. Cream and brown pictorial endpapers. 255 pages. Spine bumped. Endpapers lightly browned. Name and date in ink to front fly-leaf. Dustwrapper is edge worn/torn/chipped with small section of loss to centre of spine, some foxing to wrapper.

This is the "New Edition", a reprint of the first but with a new colour frontis and an additional 7 b/w drawings. 50 superb tipped-in colour plates distributed throughout the book. Numerous b/w drawings including some full-page. Green cloth, elaborate gilt decorations to front cover and spine. 126 pages. Large format, 11.25 x 8.5 inches. Spine is faded, with 1" tear to cloth at top; smaller nicks to base; faded. Cover edges are unevenly faded. A few other marks to covers. Inscription in ink to front endpaper. Some foxing to pages throughout book. 50 plates are in excellent condition; just a couple of creased tissue-guards. 2 pages are detached, but loosely inserted.

Brown cloth, gilt title, brown decorations to spine and front cover. 549pp. Cr 4to. Some light bumping and wear to spine and corners. Presentation plate to front pastedown. Front joint next to half-title page is cracked. Some foxing. Creasing to tissue-guard of frontis. A few hinges are pulled - binding starting to become a little weak in a couple of places. Foxing to outer page edges. All plates present. Original wrapper is edge-creased, with some grubby marks; a couple of small pieces of loss to corners.
