Light brown cloth, gilt titles and vignette to front cover. 40 exquisite colour plates mounted on cream paper. Large format. Spine and corners bumped and slightly worn. Light damp stain to lower spine edge of front cover. A few small marks to covers. All plates present, one has a small tear at lower edge but all others are in fine condition. Tissue-guard of torn plate and facing text page also have tears (larger). Foxing to contents. Contents are a little loose but binding is still tight.

Covers are damp stained. Spine and corners bumped. Name in ink to top edge of front pastedown. A couple of hinges cracked. Contents very good, some foxing to endpapers and page edges. Dustwrapper is edge worn and chipped with clear tape repairs on verso to top and tail of spine. Panels and spine are browned and grubby.

Peer Gynt is first and foremost a poetic fantasy, although based on a real person who lived Norway c1800. About his exploits, not much more is known than is found in Asbjornsen's book Norwegian Fairy Tales, in which Peer Gynt's chief exploits lie in the direction of fighting and conqueroring trolls. Admirably depicted by the "Goblin Master" in 12 colour plates plus b/w text illustrations. Brown cloth, gilt titles and vignette to front cover. Cream and brown pictorial endpapers. 255 pages. Spine bumped. Endpapers lightly browned. Name and date in ink to front fly-leaf. Dustwrapper is edge worn/torn/chipped with small section of loss to centre of spine, some foxing to wrapper.

Dustwrapper has tear to top of spine, front panel and front flap plus other edge tears. Wrapper is very grubby.

Page browning and foxing to endpapers otherwise contents clean. Scarce original dustwrapper is worn and torn with loss, foxed and a bit grubby. Loss to spine and to lower edge of front panel. Extensive but neat tape repairs on verso.
