  • When Uncle Luigi's six wooden merry-go-round horses hear they are to be replaced by rockets and speedboats, they are determined to avoid the scrap heap at all costs. With the help of one of the fairground lions who understands magic, they change themselves into real horses. Now free to roam wherever they wish, they set off to look for the land of the wild horses. They do not know where to begin their search, and their only clue comes from a mysterious old gipsy woman who tells them to 'follow the moon on the water'.
  • They quickly become separated, and their efforts to find each other, and their destiny, lead them into many dangers and adventures. Only some of the band are left to discover the meaning of the gipsy's words.
