  • As Peter rides across the Long Mynd to meet David and the twins at Seven Gates she is caught in a thunderstorm and forced to shelter in a ruined cottage. Here she meets a handsome young man to whom she is instantly attracted and who asks for help in exploring the country she has known for sixteen years.
  • This is the beginning of an astonishing adventure involving the Lone Piners and in which David and Peter are eventually imprisoned by a fall of rock in the old mine workings in the heart of the Stiperstones - and realise that they are growing up. The twins and their Scottie dog, brave Jenny who is rescued from a frightening situation by her hero Tom Ingles, and young Harriet too, all play their part in a search for treasure which was hidden in the hills by an enemy twenty years ago.
