BUMBLEBEES (NN 40)

by John B. Free; Colin G. Butler

Published by Collins. 1st. 1959

Very good condition in a very good dustwrapper. A New Naturalist series no. 40. Green cloth. Illustrated with b/w photographs by Colin G. Butler, Head of the Bee Department at Rathamsted Experimental Station. A most informative guide to locating nests, facilitating capture and guidance on maintenance. This book confirms that bumblebees are social insects whose communities are at a more primitive state of cohesion and organisation than those of honeybees. The book also demonstrates that bumblebees may be easily kept under study conditions.

Name & date in ink to front pastedown and is hidden by front flap of dustwrapper. Browning and foxing to endpapers. Text block browned, especially top edge. A few foxspots and minor grubby marks to prelims. Pictorial dustwrapper is covered with clear palstic, browned to rear panel and faded to spine.
