  • Bill Holmes was not an outstanding boy. To his masters he was a very dull boy. But though he wasn't much use when faced with academic problems, he was rather good at a different sort of problem. Sherlock Holmes and Bill did not share the same name for nothing. Naturally, even the best detectives make mistakes occasionally, and so did Bill; but he had his triumphs. In the case of Mr. Glinders, his masterly tracking-down of the culprit was in the best tradition.
