  • Poor Bunter was in the worst possible situation! He had to work for a scholarship to stay on at Greyfirars as his father had to make up a little matter of £5000 which belonged to a client of his and which had disappeared with his chauffeur, Triggs. Triggs was supposed to have picked up Bunter and his friends for a half-holiday drive to the sea but when he didn't appear they decided to join Vernon-Smith who went for a picnic on Popper's Island which was out of bounds and had been rented from Sir Hilton popper by a very aggressive bearded camper. Bunter & co. argued with this camper which led to a very undignified punishment. Vernon -Smith wasn't going to take a beating lying down and his revenge save Bunter a lot of work.
