  • Mary-Lou Trelawney and her family leave their home in Devon so Mary-Lou can attend the Chalet School as a day girl. She is upset at leaving her friend Clem Barras. Although she has reservations about going to the Chalet School Mary -Lou soon settles in and makes new friends. Verity-Anne Carey is also sent to the Chalet School but she finds it more difficult as she has been brought up by elderly relatives and her governess leaving her with little in common with girls in her form. Later Mary-Lou changes from daygirl to boarder and is delighted to learn she will be sharing a room with Clem Barras who has also been sent to the school.
