- This was the first term at the Chalet School for Erica Standish- home from Kashmir- and there was one happening after another. Beginning with a railway accident on the way from Paris to Berne she went from one adventure to another, winding up with a landslide,a tumble into the resultant crevasse, and a narrow escape from being buried alive by a further landslide.
- In between times she found friends, helped with ideas for the celebration of the school's Silver Jubilee, and adopted as a baby sister little Marie-Claire, left orphaned by the railway accident.
