Welcome to the February 2019 newsletter from Stella and Rose's Books. The aim of our newsletter is to keep you informed of new information, articles and books available on our website.

Shop News:
The last month has been busy with numerous large collections of books arriving for us to check and catalogue. Look out for new Aviation, Military, Natural History and Childrens books coming into stock over the next couple of weeks...
We're also delighted to welcome into our happy band new staff member Jackie who will be helping to process orders!
There is a feeling that Spring is on its way, and the hours of daylight are steadily growing each day now, and daffodils are already flowering in areas that catch the most sun...

Celebrations contributed by Theresa

There are so many things to celebrate throughout the year, but here are a few from the past 150 years that might have slipped your mind.

First of all let's look at those events that are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.

1969 saw the year in which Robin Knox Johnston sailed solo around the world without stopping, and The Clangers, one of the many beloved characters created by Oliver Postgate, was first shown on television. 1969 also saw the maiden flight of Concorde.

The Survey of London by Walter Besant contributed by Tim

Sir Walter Besant's (1836-1901) work on London is truly impressive in its scope, and is fascinating to anyone with an interest in this great city.

Besant was a prolific writer, producing a number of novels during his literary collaboration with James Rice, and then a greater number on his own after the latter's death. He also helped to found the Society of Authors in 1884, and had a keen interest in improving the living conditions of London's poor.
