Website issues

Our apologies to customers who may have experienced a loss of service on our website over recent days. Unfortunately, both disks on our dedicated webserver started to fail at the same time. Although a backup was made, the hardware failure caused the backup to become corrupted. In the meantime, we have created a new server and gone back to our second and third levels of backup. The website is now functioning, although we are still recovering some images for stock and articles. We hope that the website will be fully restored within the next week or so. Thank you for your patience during this difficult time!

Haynes Publishing - A very brief history contributed by Joanne

For many car drivers or repair enthusiasts, possibly the first 'Haynes' book we own will be the repair manual for our first car. I know that this was true for me, although I think that possibly it was used by my father more for repairs and trouble shooting, than by me!

The Art of the New Naturalists by Peter Marren contributed by Theresa

This book explores the artwork of the New Naturalist series of books. If you are unfamiliar with the New Naturalist titles, they are a series of Natural History books. The subjects range from 'Butterflies' which was the first book published in 1945 to 'Slugs and Snails' published in 2016.

The books are much sought after and are collected as much as for their artwork as for their content.

Until 1985 the artwork for the dustjackets was designed by Clifford and Rosemary Ellis, coincidentally they also created posters for London Transport. Since 1985 the artwork has been designed by Robert Gillmor.'
