Welcome to the December newsletter from Stella and Rose's Books. The aim of our newsletter is to keep you informed on a monthly basis of new information, articles and books available on our website. We hope you enjoy it.

This Month - Malcolm Saville- contributed by Joanne

Throughout his writing career which spanned nearly five decades, Saville wrote approximately 90 books. His popular stories for children, in addition to the Lone Pine adventures, include the 'Jilly Family series' books; 'Buckingham Family books'; 'Mike and Mary' books; 'Susan and Bill' books (the majority of these illustrated by E.H. Shepard of Winnie-the-pooh fame); 'Nettleford books' and 'Lucy and Humf' books. 'Marston Baines' was another popular series, but one that seemed to cross over to a more 'adult' fiction.

One of the joys of working in Rose's Books is rediscovering books of my childhood! Our customers obviously share this joy if the comments ("A trip down memory lane" or "I had that book") are anything to go by! One such rediscovery I shared with Katie my 13 year old daughter - The Malory Towers series by Enid Blyton . We avidly read the whole series together and would indulge in long conversations about the characters, plot and the language ('the hols', 'my people' 'school cert') to the frustration of the rest of the family who had no idea what we were talking about!
