It is a good thing to keep a diary; and an even better one to safeguard its secrets by writing them in code. But the trouble with Jennings' code was that it made his most innocent entries read like the secret dossier of some Eastern European spy organisation. Many hilarious incidents of the Easter term at Linbury Court School are recorded for posterity in the ink-splashed pages of Jenning's Diary.
