Is it a Seagull? Is it a Swan? No it’s a ….

Little Egret! Here in Tintern on the River Wye.  The Little Egret is a small white heron with attractive white plumes on crest, back and chest, black legs and bill and yellow feet. It first appeared in the UK in significant numbers in 1989 but this is the first time we have seen one in Tintern and we have lived here for 28 years! There he (or she!) was – paddling in the shallow water accompanied by the usual flotilla of ducks, with the swans and their cygnets just a few yards away. The Wye in Tintern is tidal and has a rise and fall of twenty feet at times of high tides. With very low tides just at the moment, the egret was having a lovely time in the mud at the river edge. I hope he brings his mate with him next time he visits!
